Getting started
Preview The First Claim tutorial, from your first fight to claiming land and jumping between Lanterns.
Your first moments in Fractara
You are a Claimant: someone who can anchor the land with Rift Lanterns. Your first lesson is The First Claim, a guided tutorial in the Threshold. It introduces the actions you will use throughout the game.
This chapter is a preview you can read before playing, or keep beside the game. In the tutorial, follow the current objective and its highlighted targets.
1. Recover the supplies
Find the Goblin Scavenger highlighted by the tutorial. Select it, then choose Attack. Selecting a creature opens its actions; choosing Attack starts the fight.
After defeating it, collect the supplies on the ground. Select each pile and choose Pick Up. You are looking for an Iron Sword, Rift Motes, Wood, and Leather.
2. Equip your sword
Open your inventory, select the recovered Iron Sword, and choose Equip. On a phone, open the menu first to reach your inventory. The tutorial highlights the menu you need.
Check that the sword is equipped, then close the inventory to return to the map. Carrying a weapon and equipping it are different actions.
3. Light your first Lantern
Select your own character and choose Light Lantern. The tutorial uses 2 Wood and 1 Leather from the supplies you recovered. Stay in position while the Lantern is being lit.
A Rift Lantern anchors a place and claims the surrounding ground. It is also a destination you can return to.
4. Learn what Rift Motes do
Rift Motes fuel Lantern travel. Farther jumps cost more. The Lantern action shows the cost before you commit, so check it when planning a jump.
Read the tutorial’s Mote lesson and choose I understand to continue.
Finding more Motes after the tutorial
Your starting supply will not last forever. Once you enter the wider world, you can replenish it in two ways:
- Trade at a Mending Cairn or with a Shard-Hulk. They sell Rift Motes for gold. Move within interaction range, open their offers, and check the price before buying. Trading is unavailable while the Shard Accord is hostile toward you.
- Hunt Phase Skitterers. These creatures drop Rift Motes when defeated. They can flee, so treat them as a hunt to prepare for rather than an easy refill during your first steps.
Keep enough Motes for the journey back, and check your next jump’s cost before setting off.
5. Make a second claim
Follow the gold marker beyond your first claim. You can tap the marker to walk there, or double-click or double-tap the map to move.
Your next Lantern must be outside the existing claim. Once you reach the marked ground, select your character and use Light Lantern again.
6. Jump back
Follow the arrow to your first Lantern, select it, and review the Mote cost. Choose Jump to return.
You have now practiced the whole opening sequence: fight, collect, equip, claim, and travel. Follow the tutorial’s completion prompt to enter Fractara.
Before you move on
- You can select a creature and choose Attack.
- You know how to pick up supplies and equip a weapon.
- You can light a Lantern on suitable ground.
- You know to check the Rift Mote cost before jumping.
If you are still in the tutorial, finish the highlighted objective in the game. Once you have entered the world, the next chapter helps you turn that first fight into a routine.
