## Turn your skill choices into a fighting setup

You have chosen skills to support the way you want to play. Now look at the equipment that puts those choices to work.

There are three different improvements you can make: **equip a more suitable item, upgrade its level, or repair its condition**. Start by deciding which problem you are trying to solve.

## Inspect what you have equipped

Open your inventory and select your weapon. Check its level, condition, and any requirements. Do the same for your armor and shield.

If you want to try a different item, make sure you meet its skill requirements, then choose **Equip**. Check that the intended item appears in your equipped gear. Keeping it in your bag does not make it part of your fighting setup.

Remember the skill you chose in the previous chapter. If you learned Archery to use a Longbow, you still need to obtain and equip a Longbow. If you are exploring Martial Arts, read its equipment conditions before changing your armor.

## Choose an improvement for your next fight

- **Fights take too long:** inspect your weapon and consider its level and suitability for the target.
- **You lose health too quickly:** review your protection and the enemy's attack type, as well as choosing a manageable encounter.
- **Your gear is worn or broken:** inspect the available repair action before spending on another improvement.

Different weapons and defenses have different matchups. A larger number is useful information, but compare it in the context of the enemies you plan to fight. The [weapon reference](/world/weapons/) and [damage reference](/world/damage-table/) provide more detail when you need it.

## Review an upgrade before buying it

Select an eligible item in your inventory and open its upgrade action. The preview shows the current level and power, the result after upgrading, and the gold cost.

1. Check that you selected the item you intend to improve.
2. If you choose several upgrade levels, review the total cost and resulting level.
3. Check how much gold you will have left.
4. Confirm only when the quoted improvement fits your goal.

Afterward, inspect the item's new level and your remaining gold. An upgrade changes the item you selected; make sure you have equipped it if you intend to fight with it.

If the upgrade action is blocked, read its message. Broken equipment needs repair first, and an item at its upgrade limit cannot take another level. Different item categories have their own limits, so use the item's preview rather than assuming every item follows the same ladder.

## Repair worn equipment

Repairing restores condition. It is a different action from buying another equipment level.

For eligible gear, the inventory offers a **gold repair** and shows its cost. This repair requires **Forging I**. Check the item's repair action for eligibility and whether you have enough gold.

**Mending Resin** is another repair option for eligible equipment. If you are carrying Resin, open the item's Resin repair action, choose how much to use, and review the condition change before confirming. Then check the repaired item and your remaining Resin.

Inspect your gear regularly between fights. If an action is unavailable, follow the requirement shown in the inventory instead of assuming every item can be repaired in the same way.

## Try the change in a familiar encounter

Once your item is equipped and ready, try a manageable enemy similar to one you fought before. Watch the fight itself: how quickly the enemy loses health, how much damage you take, and how much recovery you need afterward.

A higher number in the inventory is only part of the picture. Check how the equipment works with your skills and against that enemy before choosing your next upgrade.
