Leveling up
Learn how experience, skill points, and equipment work together, then choose your next improvement.
Three ways to grow stronger
Progression has several parts. Your character level tracks experience, your skills develop the things you can do, and your equipment shapes how you fight.
A higher character level does not equip a better sword for you. Treat these as related choices, and check each one as you play.
Earn experience
Fights that award experience move you toward your next character level. Check your character’s XP progress after an encounter to see the result.
When you earn enough XP, you level up. The next level has its own experience requirement. Use the progress shown in the game to choose your next goal instead of expecting every level to take the same number of fights.
Aim for encounters you can finish reliably. Time spent recovering from an encounter that overwhelms you is a reason to reconsider your target or equipment.
Review your skill points
Leveling awards skill points. Open Skills and check the points you have available to spend.
Select a skill and read the next rank before learning it. Look at its effect, point cost, and prerequisites. Some choices improve combat; others support different activities. Choose something that helps with what you want to do next.
After learning a rank, check its updated description. If it unlocks an action or ability, learn how to use that action rather than assuming every skill works automatically.
Improve the gear you actually use
Open your inventory and inspect your equipped items. When an item offers an upgrade, review the next level, stat change, and gold cost before confirming.
Consider protection as well as damage. If you are losing too much health, another weapon upgrade may not solve the problem. Look at the enemy’s attacks and your defenses.
After changing equipment, make sure the intended item is equipped. Compare how a similar encounter feels: can you finish it more comfortably, and do you need less recovery afterward?
Choose one next goal
- A fight is too difficult: recover and review the target and your equipment.
- You have unspent points: inspect a skill that supports the way you want to play.
- You have gold for an upgrade: compare the quoted improvement with what your current encounters need.
- Your usual fights feel comfortable: explore another activity or a new area at your own pace.
The guide’s order is a suggested learning path, not a set of level requirements. You can return to an earlier chapter whenever you need it.
Choose what to learn next
The next chapter, Choosing your skills, helps you decide where to spend your points, understand locked ranks, and plan toward a class.
You can also return to the guide overview to revisit a chapter, or use the reference library when you need a specific creature or equipment detail.
