Travel and exploration

Plan a useful trip, keep Rift Motes for the journey, and return to familiar ground with what you found.

Give your first trip a purpose

With a home to return to, start exploring for something you can use: Wood for your Manor, materials for a repair, or a new hunting spot. Choose one goal and make a short trip before planning a longer journey.

Use a simple routine: choose a destination → prepare → explore → return → use what you found.

Prepare before leaving

Check your health, equipped weapon, and equipment condition. Make room in your inventory for the materials you want to bring back. If you have a Manor, leave supplies you will not need in Grand Storage.

Check your carried Rift Motes and decide how you will return. Open Travel → My Home to find your home destination, or identify a Lantern you intend to jump back to. Keep travel supplies with you rather than leaving them in storage.

Walk to discover nearby opportunities

Double-click or double-tap the map to move. Explore a little at a time and inspect the creatures, resources, and structures you encounter before acting.

A useful discovery does not have to be a distant one. A gathering spot close to home can support repeated crafting trips; manageable enemies can give you a familiar place to practice your fighting routine.

If a creature looks beyond your current strength, choose another route or target. Review Your first fights before turning an exploration trip into a hunt.

Use Lantern jumps deliberately

Select a Lantern and review its Jump action. Farther Lantern jumps cost more Rift Motes, and the action shows the cost before you commit. Check the current cost whenever you plan a jump.

Budget for the journey back as well as the outward trip. Spending your last Motes to reach a new area leaves you with fewer options for your next move; avoid relying on finding more immediately after arrival.

For a refill, Mending Cairns and Shard-Hulks sell Rift Motes for gold while the Shard Accord is not hostile toward you. Phase Skitterers also drop Motes, but they can flee. The getting-started guide explains these sources.

Find destinations in Travel

Open Travel to browse the destinations available to you. Use Search destinations when you know what you are looking for.

  • My Home takes you back to your home base through Jump to Home. Leave a structure before traveling home.
  • My Watchtowers lists your Watchtowers. The panel points you toward upgrading an Anchored Lantern when you need to establish one.
  • Trade Hubs provide destinations for a trading trip. Check that your chosen destination has an available Travel action.
  • Citadels has its own tab. Joining, founding, or visiting a Citadel adds a destination there. Where a fare is required, use Get fare and review it before Confirm travel.

Read the destination’s current action and requirements rather than assuming every kind of travel uses the same price or rules. After traveling, check where you arrived before setting off again.

Understand GPS relocation

Relocate in Travel moves your character to your real-world GPS location. It does not move your cabin, Manor, or claims.

Use Get GPS location, inspect the location shown, and follow the confirmation steps. The panel can show a wait, request a fresh GPS fix, or ask you to approve a Rift Mote cost based on the trip and your remaining free allowance. Read that information before confirming.

For an ordinary return to your cabin, use My Home.

Finish the trip

Return to familiar ground, check what you brought back, and put it toward the goal you chose. Repair your equipment, craft the item, or store materials for the Manor upgrade.

Before leaving again, recover and check your remaining travel supplies. A good first exploration trip teaches you both where to find something useful and how to get home with it.

Your next milestone

You should now be able to plan a short gathering or hunting trip, review travel costs, and return with useful supplies. Repeat that loop as you explore farther from home.
